EDS provides outsourced voice and data services for Fortune 1000 companies and government offices.
Challenge
- EDS wanted the capability of processing more than 1.2 million call records per hour on behalf of one of the world's largest banks, from nine carriers using 14 different formats. EDS needed to accurately associate the cost of each telephone call to the appropriate originating phone.
- EDS had to validate billings submitted by its carriers so that the company could in turn accurately charge its banking client for services provided. EDS wanted to protect its contracted margins and accurately predict future costs.
- EDS needed to mediate and correlate call usage records from both the carriers and the PBX at the bank in order to accurately account for the chargebacks.

- Kabira provided EDS with a transaction platform capable of processing hundreds of millions of call records per day without needing to add cost or hardware to the system.
- Kabira enables EDS to correlate PBX records to carrier call data records (CDRs) and gives EDS the critical charging and reporting capabilities it requires.
Results
EDS' new Mediation System can scale to grow as needed while maintaining ultra high performance. A single Kabira-EDS system now handles both collection and mediation functions for EDS. It can communicate with legacy OSS/BSS/ERP network and service systems.
EDS' new Mediation System has enabled the company to identify and collect significant amounts of previously unbilled and unaccounted-for services to its customers.
After deploying this solution using Kabira, EDS' in-house development team has added new billing formats and new carriers easily and reliably without assistance from Kabira, and has operated its Mediation System daily and around the clock without interruption for more than three years.
